Self-Discipline

I often feel overwhelmed by my own mind. I have these urgent anxieties, desires that want to be satiated immediately. If I’m craving pizza it’s nearly impossible to resist ordering one. If I should be studying for a test at work I can only read a few words before tossing the book aside. If I know better than to speak ill of someone I carelessly let the words slide. The more I give in to what I want in the moment, the worse I feel about myself, especially when I can’t even get my pants buttoned and I stagnate in my career development. It’s enough to make me want to stay in bed all day because at least there I won’t be stuffing my face or talking negatively about others. This morning I honestly wished I could use one of my sick days from work as a “fat day” because I felt like a balloon.

How did I let myself reach this point? It’s irrelevant, it’s in the past. Even thinking about how I’ve let myself go mentally and physically makes my blood pressure rise and panic creep in. The point is to be a new person today. To be present right now, and right now I’m in control. My first goal is to lose 10 pounds a month for the next 3 months. Starting now.
